1 Why did Spain agree to finance Columbus and his voyage? (Discuss at least 3 reasons)
The Queen and King of Spain funded Columbus’s voyage in return of riches, spices, and gold that Columbus would find along the way (Libcom, 2022). Columbus had convinced the King and Queen that gold was and wealth were on the opposite side of the ocean. Crossing the Atlantic would lead Columbus to Asia and the Indies where there would be lots of spices and gold. Having unified recently, Spain had a population of very poor peasants with the noble group owning 95% of the monarch state. The noble group needed wealth to ensure control of the population and to buy anything the sought.
2 What would Columbus get in return? (Discuss at least 3)
With a successful quest Columbus was promised 10% of the found spices, gold, and wealth. Moreover, he was promised to be governor and ruler of all the discovered lands. Ultimately, he would be crowned admiral and general of the new sea.
3 Describe the first voyage of Columbus. (one-two paragraphs)
On 3rd August 1492, was able to travel from Spain to the Caribbean Islands that he believed were parts of Asia. His aim was to discover and map an over the sea route to Asia.
