The formation of the U.S. as a nation came through a lot of sweat and blood; through the civil war. The American Civil War began in 1861 and lasted until 1865. The main reason was due to the North and South differing in several things and yet trying to stay together, forcefully. Northern and Southern states had developed economically, politically, and socially in opposing directions. There are reasons why the South wanted to secede from the rest of the nation.
First was the ideological differences between the South and the North. The South greatly held to its belief in slavery while the North was against it.
