Translational Research Graphic Organizer: Acute Bronchitis

Coursework Instructions:

The purpose of this assignment is to conduct a comparison on different research designs to better understand their designs and application. Understanding the different types of research design is important so that nurses can effectively apply evidence-based research into practice to address issues and offer better patient care.
Conduct a literature search on your approved nursing practice problem. Find two translational research articles, one quantitative article, and one qualitative article. Using the "Translational Research Graphic Organizer," present your proposed topic and, in the tables provided, compare one translational study to the quantitative study, and one translational study to the qualitative study.
You are required to cite four peer-reviewed sources to complete this assignment. Sources must be published within the last 5 years and appropriate for the assignment criteria and nursing content.
While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines.

Nursing Practice Problem: Antibiotic use in cough relief and reducing lost working hours and days among patients with acute bronchitis
Acute bronchitis is characterized by lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) and acute coughs that cause lost working hours and days (Godycki-Cwirko et al., 2016). About 90 percent of patients with acute bronchitis seek medical attention, and the condition is among the top ten most common diseases among outpatients in the United States (Singh et al., 2021). Coughing that is often associated with acute bronchitis can last between two and three weeks, and antibiotics have been shown to offer cough relief by about half a day. However, they are associated with adverse effects such as nausea, vomiting, allergic reactions, and Clostridium difficile infections (Kinkade & Natalie, 2016). This problem is relevant to advanced nursing practice. Therefore, evidence-based care practice should be employed to find effective ways of using antibiotics among patients with acute bronchitis while minimizing the side effects. This study investigates whether the use of antibiotics among patients with acute bronchitis can reduce coughing and lost working hours and days within a month compared to avoiding using the treatment.

Observations (Similarities/Differences)

Methodology

Use secondary data collected and apply the gained insights to solving a clinical problem on the use of antibiotics for uncomplicated acute bronchitis, particularly in young children

Uses secondary data from published research studies to provide conclusions over an already established research problem

Both use secondary data.

Goals

Translate basic research findings into practice. The study seeks to identify predictors for inappropriate prescription and use of antibiotics among patients with acute bronchitis.

Provide basic information, facts, or description on a certain topic/subject

Translational research applies theory in practice, while traditional qualitative studies are descri...
