Seven core drugs are recommended that should be found in the dental emergency drug kit.
Oxygen –consider the most useful drug which comes in various sizes. During emergencies, the dosage that is often recommended is the use of the “E” cylinder due to its portability. During the events where a patient is apneic, O2 is provided through an E cylinder for 30 minutes.
Glucose (orange juice) - this is usually used as antihyperglycemic for managing hypoglycemia in patients suffering from diabetes mellitus. No recommended dosage of emergency kit but a bottle should be available in the dental office.
Diphenhydramine – this drug acts as a histamine blocker that is often utilized in the event of delayed-onset allergic reactions. This is administered after epinephrine in managing acute allergic reactions. Dosage for emergency kit includes: at least two 1-mL ampules of 50 mg/mL diphenhydramine or 10 mg/mL chlorpheniramine
