Personal Class Design Project
Describe the institution that is sponsoring the class. Include the philosophy of the sponsoring organization and how that will affect the course you are developing.
The institution sponsoring this class is a hospital. Aside from providing quality healthcare to members of the surrounding community, the hospital also seeks to build long-term relationships with the community. Great healthcare is indeed crucial, but the hospital seeks to encourage a closer relationship with those around them. The management of the hospital believes that in doing so, it will be easier to ensure the prevention of various diseases. Their dedication is to serving the members of the community, and the management believes that service cannot be achieved without a united approach to healthcare. Therefore, the hospital's management is working to ensure that it keeps the members of the community in close proximity as it rolls out various healthcare campaigns to help deal with some of the issues plaguing the community.
The philosophy of the hospital is founded on the principle of ensuring a closer relationship with patients. The hospital's management believes that quality care provision cannot be attained if the needs and expectations of the patients are not met right from their homes. Therefore, it is prudent that the hospital partners with patients, their families, the community stakeholders, and other healthcare enthusiasts in the community to help ensure the goal of providing holistic care is attained.
Such a philosophy will indeed become a cornerstone for the class in development. Working under the grace of an organization that is well aware of the importance of partnering with the neighboring community is indeed a great sign for me because the class mainly focuses on community health and development. With a philosophy that seeks to keep the community close, I believe the class will be readily accepted and supported by the management of the hospital.
Explain how you determined a need for this class.
Developing successful community-based public health interventions is not an easy feat. One has to have a good rapport with the surrounding community and also have the backing of a committed partner.
I determined the need for this class after I studied the lifestyle disease patterns of the community. I realized that many of the sick people are suffering from diseases that could be prevented. Conditions to do with nutrition, communicable diseases, and personal decisions continue to ravage the community. This made me dig deeper, and I discovered that people are not sensitized enough for some of these preventable diseases. Therefore, I saw a gap that could be exploited, especially by using the youth who are young and energetic.
Also, I discovered that there is a shortage of nurses, which means the available ones are overwhelmed by the needs of the community. Nursing shortage translates to higher rates of mortality and morbidity. Also, medical errors are prone to increase with nursing being less than enough (Haddad, 2020). So, by training a group of young people to help with sensitization against the issues identified above, I believe the community can...
