Rationalization in healthcare is a procedural process and framework to meet the demands of individuals on offering valuable care through equitable resourcing regardless of age, gender, race, or ethnicity (Borkowski, 2016a). This means that the rationale for selecting a healthcare facility adheres to the organizational behavior of the organization. In this vein, several considerations suffice the UMMS Foundation selection criteria. Accordingly, the process should focus on the commonality of services in a given unit through financial stewardship and greater leadership.
Henderson et al. (2018) suggest that cultural competence and readiness are the primary rationales for healthcare facility selection. Based on healthcare requirements, the need to rationalize the framework is posed with large-scale transformational endeavors which call for cultural readiness. Cultural competence among healthcare providers leads to overall quality care in a given facility. Therefore, cultural attentiveness as a rationalization initiative brings satisfaction, adherence to treatment, effective care, effective interaction since clients are open to talking about their feelings, and improved outcomes. Therefore, the selection criteria under cultural competence in UMMS Foundation will be dictated by respecting and tailoring quality care, offering ethical and equitable care, and understanding clients’ needs. Also, service rationalization would suffice as Borkowski (2016a) suggested that service rationalization aims to eliminate difficulties in offering services to help the margin needs of a community.
