Week # 7 Discussion Post
The spread of diseases can be detrimental to persons traveling to and from the United States. Ensuring precautionary measures are taken not only put travelers at ease but can help to eliminate the spread of certain diseases amongst travelers. The CDC has several factors in place to monitor safety of travelers entering and exiting the Uniter States. This includes possibility of being in quarantine, review of shot records, possible documentation of health exams, search of property and luggage to ensure no illegal or prohibited items are brought into the United States. Being that the spread of diseases are not limited to the United States the CDC/DGMQ partners with other countries in an effort to stop the spread of known harmful diseases. “DGMQ collaborates with other countries to prevent serious public health threats from spreading beyond a single country’s border to other parts of the world” (CDC, 2021).
Frequent traveling occurring nationally and internationally can increase the spread of diseases at rapid rates. The Office of Global Affairs monitors diseases that can be spread rapidly amongst travelers and invade countries. Some of these include diseases such as TB and other contagious that can be spread unknowingly or without symptoms. The office of Global Affairs continuously does research and monitors the progression of diseases. With this research protocols are established to maintain control of the diseases thus promoting safety and health for individuals. The office of Global Affairs also collaborates with agencies worldwide exchanging and sharing information regarding health. This collaboration ensures that each country is aware of the potential dangers of current and new found diseases processes. It is their goal to promote a safe and healthy environment amongst those traveling nationally and internationally.

I agree that travel in and outside the United States is a potent force in disease spread. With more than one billion people traveling all over the country and the world and so deep in their destinations, it leads to the spread of infectious diseases. It happens through new pathogens entering a population, spreading of human host organisms such as measles to a different area, and introducing pathogens into an area with permissive conditions for disease spread. According to Pavia (2007, pp. 621), travelers are prone to the spread of diseases through close contact with people and animals that are sick, consuming contaminated food or drinks, and getting into contact with infected vectors and individuals.
In addition to the CDC’s outlined safety measures to avoid spreading diseases, travelers can help this process by observing basic hygiene of washing their hands regularly, avoiding touching their mouths and nos...
