Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)

Description of the disorder

A condition that causes the inflammation, edema, and bronchospasm of the bronchi and bronchioles.

COPD is a condition that causes poor airflow and breath problems in the long term.

Clinical Manifestations

The symptoms of Asthma are wheezing, coughing, tightness of the chest, and shortness of breath.

Coughing with mucus and shortness of breath are the main symptoms of the condition.

Underlying pathophysiology

The inflammation of the airways causes the surrounding smooth muscles to relax. Relaxing of the smooth muscles causes a patient to experience wheezing and other asthma symptoms, usually at night or early in the morning (Eapen et al., 2017). Chronic Asthma may increase the size of the smooth muscle and the number of mucous glands. The relaxing of the smooth muscles is reversible with or without treatment.
