Unlike a personal journal of thoughts and feelings, this leadership journal is a record of your activities, assessments, and learning related to this academic experience.
Journal entries should include a record of the number of hours spent with your nurse leader each week.
Write a journal entry of 750-1,500 words on the subject of provision, including the following:
Practicum Activities Reflection: Provide observations and thoughts on the activities in your practicum during Topics 7-8.
Application of Leadership: Describe how your nurse leader preceptor influences the work environment. Consider how influence protects and values others in the work environment.
Practicum Project Preparation: Describe any potential or actual barriers you have encountered as you prepared for project implementation. If you have not encountered any, what could present a barrier in the future?
Leadership Video Reflection: Reflect on at least two things you learned from the "Servant Leadership - Issue of Headship" video.

Practicum Activities Reflection:
During the week, the hospital faced an influx of patients in both the emergency and ICU sections. During this time, everyone was busy attending to patients and other assigned duties, leaving little to no rest time. Under these circumstances, the number of staff free to offer assistance to different sections of the hospital was very few thus, others had to take on extra shifts. This impacted the ability of the nurses to provide services effectively at times due to work overload. This can affect eh overall performance of the institution, ultimately affecting patient satisfaction that reflects negatively on the nurses.
Such situations further pushed the need for the virtual ICU in the organization in instances where the number of patients in an ICU becomes overwhelming hence, a helping hand would become valuable. In such a situation, a clinician may get assistance from another virtually in a different location who may provide professional advice and suggestions to assist in such critical cases. The ease of being overwhelmed also becomes apparent hence, mistakes may happen in which a second eye monitoring the situation provides a lifeline that can be used. With this in mind, nurses and physicians can adjust their minds and give assistance to the best of their abilities while relying on an extra pair of hands that oversees their actions. This improves performance while serving as a motivating facto to all staff members.
Application of Leadership:
The health organization's work environment plays a critical role in ensuring that other colleagues feel confident and happy to perform their duties optimally. As a nurse leader, her role requires adequate supervision and assignment of tasks hence, she must count on others to work effectively. In this regard, the leader believes in all the employees by giving them equal opportunities to use their skills and assist patients (Morsiani, Bagnasco, & Sasso, 2016). This enables all the other nurses to learn how best to use their unique skills in the organization, even without strict supervision.
By doing this, the nurse leader instills confidence in each and every other nurse under her wing. This shows how she values her colleagues' skills, thus can entirely depend on them to perform their duties as required.
