I belong to the American Association of Nurse Practitioner (AANP). The organization provides information, tools, as well as resources that nurse practitioners (NP) need to be successful in their careers and profession (AANP, 2020). Being part of AANP offers an opportunity to advance one’s education, ensuring that an NP can optimize their practice and performance. AANP offers licensure and certification to improve an NP’s potential to grow professionally. Another importance of being part of AANP is the opportunity to network and develop professional relationship. NPs need to work collaboratively with others professionals to gain wide knowledge and resources. AANP connects NPs to a large network of professionals. AANP also ensures that NPs can access timely and relevant information (AANP, 2020). The organization publishes latest information in the medical field that can be useful in keeping NPs updated.
While AANP does support professional and development of practice, it also helps develop one’s leadership skills to engage in important roles such as policy change. For example, NPs that develop extensive knowledge and information obtain significant information that can be useful in developing or altering policies that improve practice (AANP, 2020). NPs have the credibility to connect with policy-makers to present proposals on various issues that affect practice and patient well-being. The AANP is an important organization for molding nurse leaders that contribute in changing how care is provided.
