Compare the grand nursing theory based on human needs (particulate/deterministic) by Florence Nightingale and Virginia Henderson – based on human needs; Compare them in terms of concepts, assumptions, implications, and application.
Nursing practice hinges on certain nursing theories that help to define the field and offer a detailed understanding of the field. Two such theories include the Environmental Adaptation Theory by Florence Nightingale, and the Nursing Needs Theory by Virginia Henderson.
These two theories differ in the way they approach the nursing practice. This paper will thus showcase their differences in terms of key concepts, assumptions, implications, and applications in the nursing field.
In the Nursing Needs Theory, Virginia uses four concepts, including person, environment, health, and nursing. Her theory focused on the idea that the patient’s immediate environment is key to improving or deteriorating their health outcomes.
