Assignment Overview
Organizational theory refers to examination of the performance and efficiency of an organization and the behaviors of the employees within it. Management theories describe factors and processes that influence the structure and outcomes of organizations and how they interact in society and across the health care industry. While managers must allocate resources, understand money, statistics, strategies, and economics, the majority of their time is spent handling employees.
Case Assignment
Part 1: Chapter 2 of Organizational Behavior and Theory in Health Care discusses theories of managing people. This chapter noted five of the most difficult tasks faced by a manager; knowing things that cannot be shared with staff, balancing quality against finances, enforcing policies and losing a good employee, dealing with conflicts involving employees, and lacking rewards to retain talented employees. Further along in the chapter, the text discusses five theories: Scientific Management Theory, Administrative Theory, Human Relations Theory, Theory X and Y, and The Contingency Approach. Utilizing this chart, discuss/describe each theory in detail, compare and contrast the theory noted in box two with box one, and finally in box three describe two health care examples that would be applicable to the theory in box one.
Part 2: After completing the chart, review Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs on page 22 of Organizational Behavior and Theory. Maslow divided the chart into growth needs and deficiency needs. Utilizing scholarly sources to support your response, discuss two actionable behaviors for each need that a manager could incorporate into their leadership style to ensure that employees are supported and motivated to achieve positive outputs.

Scientific Management Theory:
The theory focuses on the employment of systematic procedures to approach employee management. Frederick Taylor, its main proponent, emphasizes the essence of standardization of work processes to ensure efficiency and productivity in the workplace. The scientific management theory also delves into the role of division of labour, managerial control, and time management in workforce control (Scott et al., 2003).

Human Relations Theory:
While the scientific management theory focuses on the task and the mechanics of achieving it, the human relations theory focuses on the significance of social interactions and employee satisfaction in enhancing productivity. As such, it emphasizes the need for effective communication, motivation, and teamwork in achieving organizational objectives.

* The scientific management theory can be applied to optimize workflow in a healthcare organization. For instance, managers can monitor time dynamics in hospital tasks to streamline operations and minimize waiting times.
* The theory can also help to standardize medical procedures. This approach ensures adherence to set protocols and consistent care provision.

Administrative Theory:
According to this theory, universal management principles are key to running any organization, including planning, organizing, coordinating, and controlling. Henri Fayol, argues that the approach is applicable in any employee management setting.

The Contingency Approach:

Human Relations Theory:
This approach acknowledges the importance of considering psychological and social factors to motivate employee behaviour and productivity.
Creating the right work environment by facilitating effective communication, teamwork, and employee motivation enhances productivity (Scott et al., 2003).
