Home health care entails providing professional services that enable people to live in their homes safely. In contrast, hospice care involves pain management or symptom relief programs that are offered to terminally ill patients. The paper focuses on the comparison of hospice and home health care industries and the four primary levels of hospice care.
The hospice and home health care industries play significant roles in comforting sick patients and ensuring that they are provided with the most appropriate services. Both sectors reduce hospitalization and focus on offering specific customized healthcare services to their patients. However, hospice care offers individualized healthcare plans that help terminally ill patients to manage pain and symptoms (Cain, 2019). The hospice care industry deals with patients with a prognosis of six months or below. Highly skilled and experienced physicians are required to provide services to patients. Patients can use Medicare to cover healthcare services offered at hospices, including medications and equipment. The hospice care sector is required to provide counseling services to patients' family members or caregivers. For instance, the hospice care industry in the United States of America (USA) has helped many terminally sick patients to live a quality life. As a result, the primary goal of this sector is to enhance the quality of life for patients and their families.
The home health care industry caters to the needs of older adults and those living with chronic illnesses (Sterling et al., 2020). Physicians in this sector visit patients at their homes and ensure that they get everything they need to manage or recover from their illnesses. In particular, the home health care sector offers therapies or treatments to patients to restore their independence. Sick individuals are homebound. Health providers ensure to supply all necessary resources that can facilitate the quick recovery of their patients, such as medications, equipment, and other appropriate supplies (Sterling et al., 2020).
