Ancillary services are supportive healthcare services provided to patients during care exclusive from the room, board, medical and nursing services. These services complement health care, and they are task-specific and time-limited. The services include pharmacy, laboratory services, and radiology. 
2. How do ancillary services offered in rural and urban areas differ?
Rural residents tend to have less access to comprehensive healthcare services but lower healthcare costs. Furthermore, most specialists tend to be in urban hospitals that serve larger populations and have more medical departments with more ancillary services. Obtaining medical insurance and ancillary services in rural hospitals is also more challenging (Yaya et al., 2017). However, due to the high cost of medical care, ethnic minorities and low-income families living in urban areas face many challenges in obtaining basic medical services.
