Comparing and Contrasting Lewin’s and Roger’s Change Theory
Change is a human behavior concept and must be understood in order for organizations and individuals to make effective changes. Theories have been developed to explain how human behavior determines a change. In this paper, Kurt Lewin’s and Everette Roger’s theory of change are compared and contrasted.
Lewin’s theory is the oldest of the change theories. It is a three-stage theory; that is unfreezing, change and refreezing. In the unfreezing stage, change is needed, in the moving stage change is introduced and in the refreezing stage, equilibrium is achieved and established (Mitchell, 2013). The unfreezing stage occurs after the organization has reviewed the existing practices and identified the voids or the bad practices that have been acquired with time; also, the staffs have been to be sensitized on the need of changing their ways. From the review, an organization can recognize the need for change in the organization. Once the people are ready for a change, the change can be introduced; during this time learning practices aimed at the change is initiated.
