The purpose of this Assignment is for you to present your views, values, and beliefs about the four concepts of the nursing metaparadigm (i.e., person, nursing, health, and environment) and their interrelationship to one another as they guide your current nursing practice. The process of identifying a personal nursing philosophy of advanced nursing practice and continuously examining, affirming, and validating this philosophy through caring for patients, families, communities, populations, and/or systems can foster professional and personal growth that builds advanced practice expertise.

In this Assignment, you will develop the first draft of your personal philosophy of advanced practice nursing. You will continue to work on this document throughout the course, with new drafts reflecting your growing sophistication as you reflect on each week's lesson.

My understanding of nursing care is that APRNs need to meet the patient care needs while considering holistic care provision and ethical practice to improve health outcomes, and the quality of care. Nurses are caring and they embrace the dignity of self and those they encounter be they patients and families when they need them. Nurses are called to be patient advocates with clinical and ethical competence, and I do and will not judge patients based on their circumstances, but will rather try to provide individualized care where feasible as this is appropriate. The domains of the nursing metaparadigm of person, nursing, and environment revolve around human health.

With regards to a person, each one is unique and they are influenced by what is around them, their culture, physiological changes, development and spirituality. The individuals respond to the changes using the resources at their disposal, and patients need to be sensitized on the importance of self-care management (Knight& Shea, 2014). While an individual’s choices affect the quality of their health they need to be well informed to make the right decisions. I am concerned with how systems and surroundings influence behavior and will consider this when assessing the patient interaction with me and other health practitioners. I will interact with the patient and those they interact with especially the family as this influences nurse interaction.
As a nurse, I will prioritize caring while using knowledge and skills to advance nursing practice in a professional manner. Nurses need to use nursing theories and framework so they can integrate environment, health and person domains in practice (McCutcheon, Schaar, & Parker, 2016). Additionally, nurses use the ANA standards while supporting the patient rights and dignity. Nurses care for patients who also understand to maintain their well-being, and caring extends to specific needs that patients require at a particular time.
