Perception is a viewpoint through which people see their reality. However, Everyone should note that perception is not always factual and does not always imply truth. Therefore, perceptions and realities differ from each other. Even so, many people are still perplexed about perceptions and realities. This statement is especially true in gifted education, where some students confuse perception and reality; thus, everyone should try to dispel myths (Hafenstein et al., 2022). Therefore, to better understand gifted education, one must be aware and familiar with the two concepts.
Here are some gifted education myths and realities to help people understand their distinctions. There are some myths about gifted education. People need to understand that these “myths” are entirely false. Some myths include gifted children having lower self-esteem than non-gifted students, television being detrimental to young gifted children (University of Connecticut, 1998), and gifted students being the best in their class (Jones & Gallagher, 2019).
