Question #1: Many children have fathers who are incarcerated. Discuss the impact incarceration of fathers has on children.
Question #2: Explore the impact on communities of people of color in the United States for example, since you live in Southern California you might want to focus on communities in the cities of Los Angeles. Once you select a community or communities discuss gender and how the loss of the father may affect female children versus male children
Question #3: Find three separate articles that explore the lives of children with incarcerated fathers. Make sure that they are different articles that the one I posted in the prompt. Once you select your three articles just write a paragraph summary of what each article is about. Make sure to post the link of the three articles in your references.

Children are negatively impacted by the incarceration of their fathers. According to … the lack of father figures for the children while growing has been associated with increased aggression and attention problems. Consequently, they are likely to be involved in criminal activity such as assaults as well as perform poorly in education. Such outcomes are undesirable for a child because they impact their chances of success in future.

In Los Angeles, Black men are more likely to be incarcerated than both White and Latino men. The result has been a community that has more single parents especially mothers and according to Younge (2012) the male children usually adopt harmful behaviors that cause them to be jailed like their fathers. Arditti (2014) agrees with such an observation in that most fathers in prison seem to come from a family with a history of criminal activity for generations. The problem also seems to affect male children more than females. In this regard, the male children are more likely to commit crimes and engage in criminal behavior compared to female dependents. As such, it is possible that incarceration of fathers results in vicious cycle of criminal behavior from one generation to the next.

Martin (2017) begins the article by noting that the families of those incarcerated are usually silent victims. In this regard, they do not have a platform to voice their opinions and the society usually does not acknowledge that they are impacted by the incarceration of one the parents. The article then highlights the scope of the problem by noting that 50 to 75 percent of those incarcerated are parents. Furthermore, 40 percent of the incarcerated parents are usually African American males. Thus, race and gender are an issue in regards to incarceration and parenthood. Martin (2017) then continues to highlight the impacts of incarceration on children. He notes that involvement in criminal behaviors, psychological problems and antisocial behavior, and poor educational achievement are some of the issues.
