Step #2: Now after reading only Chapter 1 answer the following three questions:
Question #1: When visitors enter your classroom or center, how do you think they perceive your values as a teacher?
Hint on how to answer the Question #1: I want you to talk about, for example, what do you think people would think if they come into your classroom based on your classroom environment, based on what they see, based on what they hear, based on your classroom set up, and based on the classroom materials you have in the classroom. Therefore what would visitors perceive of your classroom?
Question #2: Examine your current early childhood program of the “Creative Curriculum” for Infants and Toddlers. How does the curriculum for your particular age group of infant and toddlers reflect your values, your training and your beliefs?
Hint on how to answer Question #2: In the past we have talked about how the “Emergent Curriculum” doesn’t fit into some curriculums that are in early head start programs. Now you can talk about how the “Creative Curriculum” fits into the “Emergent Curriculum”. You can talk about how does the creative curriculum reflect your values, and do you believe in emergent curriculum? Then you can talk about parts of the emergent curriculum that you may value? Talk about what your values are when it comes to children learning through play?
Question #3: Is it possible for you to hold on to your vision of what early childhood curriculum should be while still meeting the requirements of both society and your early childhood program?
Hint on how to answer Question #3: In the past you read about the emergent curriculum and you know that your early childhood program doesn’t use the “Emergent Curriculum” as you have been using the academic based “Creative Curriculum”, therefore is it possible for you to hold on to your vision by believing in the “Emergent Curriculum” by believing that children learn through play and how can you still be able to meet the requirements of the “Creative Curriculum” that your early head start program has but also give children opportunities to have some parts of the “Emergent Curriculum” like parts of children’s play that you believe in how can you implement it in the “Creative Curriculum” and be able to give children some opportunities for some parts of the “Emergent Curriculum”.
Step #3: Remember to include references as you respond to the questions. For example, make sure to reference Chapter 1 of the book titled “Emergent Curriculum in Early Childhood Settings” by Susan Stacey.
Also you can read the article of “Clay Play” by Liz Rogers and Dana Steffan and use it as a reference to answer the questions above in Step #2

Introduction
Early childhood education forms the foundation of lifelong learning and a building block of a child’s future success. These startup programs help in the holistic development of a child’s emotional, social, cognitive and physical needs (Brenneman, 2011). As such, a well-established curriculum is critical in ensuring active human development. Emergent curriculum is one of the suitable tactics in planning for children’s learning in early childhood settings. The approach allows teachers to understand each child’s individual needs better, hence helping them craft thoughtful and individualized development (Stacey, 2009). On the other hand, it helps identify a child's interests, needs, strengths and lived realities.
Question one
Play is an essential medium through which children explore and manipulate their physical environment. They effectively learn new knowledge when they are actively engaged and learning experience based on individual strengths and styles. Therefore, the teacher's values can be measured by the ability to create an environment that incorporates all these elements. According to Stacey (2009), the classroom environment influences children learning, mood and behavior.
A well-organized classroom that sets up organized spaces that are well labeled offers children an opportunity to identify and understand their interests (Stacey, 2009). For instance, storing classroom materials alongside the object picture helps children retrieve them with ease and build confidence. Similarly, displaying a classroom schedule helps children understand the sequence of events during a day. Also, a classroom setting should be organized in such a way to allow children to make choices. For example, setting up areas in a classroom where children can learn through exploratory and dramatic play. A teacher can easily manage such centers by adopting a choice board where children can have options.
On the other hand, how a teacher allows students to participate in a classroom actively determines his values. Typically, a classroom communicates to a child what happens in such an area. For example, children may develop a negative outlook if they enter a setting with desks and less imagery. However, if they interact with exciting things, they may develop a positive attitude and become excited Schwartz & Copeland, 2015). Further, a visitor can tell the values by observing how a teacher interacts and bonds with the children. For example, joining children in their playtime and helping them mold objects can improve the children-teacher relationship.
