Question 1: What are two tenets of theorists John Bowlby's (1958) attachment theory?
John Bowlby in 1958 suggested that attachment in an infant's first few weeks of life should be an experience filled with safety, reliability, warmth, persistence and intimate relationship with either the mother or caregiver. Bonding at this stage makes the infant's adaptability easier in scopes of social and psychological developments (Youtube, n.d). The tendency to explore the world with enthusiasm depends heavily on how reliable the caregivers were to the children during this infant stage. Granting the infant that innate urge of bonding with the caregiver guarantees healthy personality growth and increases their chances of survival.
Question 2: What are two tenets of theorists Harry Harlow's (1957) Rhesus Monkeys?
Harry Harlow in 1957 concluded from the Rhesus Monkeys experiment how the absence of sensitive maternal parenting during childhood causes adverse complications in the individual's social and psychological development (Youtube, n.d). The monkeys used in the experiment are much dependent on warm contact which serves their comfort rather than feeding. Withdrawal tendencies intended to create distress aroused heightened need for love from the mother figure. Studies also found out that this period of depriving the monkeys love would only be reversible if it lasted less than ninety days; the same is believed to last less than six months for humans.
