Coursework Instructions:

The responses for each question should be one page each in APA.
1) Clever/Launchpad (C3J1)
Look at the resources provided by the district through Clever/Launchpad. Spend a minimum of one hour exploring the resources. Describe one resource that is new to you and how you will use it in the classroom. Possible resources include, but are not limited to, STEMscopes, EVERFI, Learn Zillion, or Newsela. Galileo is a resource often used by teachers but can also be used for elementary, middle, and high school students for research. The purpose is to try something you have not used before or to explore a resource you have not used in some time. If you feel highly confident and familiar with all resources, use the time to take that resource to the next level. Can you assign different activities to groups of students? Name at least one resource from Clever/Launchpad and describe the benefits and how you will use it in the classroom. Address how the resource may be used for gifted students. Be sure to include connections to at least two of the resources in this week’s course. Title the entry “Clever/Launchpad.”

2) Curriculum Community (C3J2)
Teachers do not have time to explore resources. They often visit external resources before visiting district or state resources. For this week’s journal, you are asked to spend a minimum of one hour exploring resources in the Curriculum Community in Canvas. Find something you can adapt and use in your classroom. Address how the assignment can be extended for gifted learners. Explain how you would provide feedback for the assignment. You may also use Rubistar to assess and provide feedback. Reference at least two articles on feedback from Educational Leadership. Title this journal entry “Curriculum Community.”

3) Qualities of Effective Teachers (C3J3)
Read parts of Qualities of Effective Teachers, 3rd Edition by James Stronge. You have access to the digital book in Galileo or a hard copy at your school. The direct link for Galileo is https://www(dot)galileo(dot)usg(dot)edu/. See your teacher-librarian for the password.
Every school also has 14 hard copies of the book. Ask your media specialist or administration where the books are housed to check out a copy. Copies are also available through the professional library and can be requested by emailing ____. Use the index to look up high-ability students. Read those passages and describe what enhancements can be made to your classroom. Title this entry “Qualities of Effective Teachers.” You will have only one source for this journal.

4) Problem Solving (C3J4)
Choose two or more of the following Educational Leadership articles to read. They appeared in the October 2017 edition, Unleashing Problem Solvers. Reflect on problem solving in your classroom. Are students given the opportunity to solve real-world problems? What changes will you make as a result of reading the articles? Title this entry “Problem Solving.”
5) High School Offerings (C3J5)
Compare and contrast Advanced Placement (AP), Dual Enrollment, and International Baccalaureate (IB). Include the advantages and disadvantages of each. Be sure to address the potential impact on gifted learners. Don’t limit yourself to a formal paper. Feel free to create a three-circle Venn diagram using your own technology or a resource like http://www(dot)readwritethink(dot)org/files/resources/interactives/venn_diagrams/. Remember that journal entries should include a reflection and references. Title this entry “High School Offerings.”

-Community Circle
-Concept Attainment
-Metaphorical Expression
-Window Notes
Select one strategy from The Strategic Teacher. Try it in your classroom. Describe the activity and the standards it addresses. Reflect on the successes and struggles. 1 Clever/Launchpad (C3J1)
While exploring the Clever/Launchpad resources provided by the district, I came across Newsela. This innovative platform offers a variety of leveled articles and assessments in alignment with Common Core standards. Newsela is an invaluable resource for integrating literacy into multiple subject areas and differentiating instruction to accommodate the diverse reading levels of students, including gifted students.
In the classroom, I plan to incorporate Newsela by assigning articles corresponding to our current unit of study, enabling students to read and comprehend the text at their reading levels. Additionally, I can use the platform's assessment features to gauge students' understanding of the material effectively. For gifted students, I will assign more challenging articles or encourage them to analyze texts at a deeper level by making connections to prior knowledge or applying critical thinking skills.
The utilization of Newsela is closely aligned with the concept of building students' sense of agency, as discussed by Tishman and Clapp (2017), as well as inviting uncertainty into the classroom, a concept put forth by Beghetto (2017). By providing students with resources specifically tailored to their abilities and allowing them the freedom to explore topics of interest, we can foster a sense of ownership, curiosity, and engagement in their learning. Furthermore, this approach contributes to developing students' self-efficacy and encourages them to take charge of their educational journey.
2 Curriculum Community (C3J2)
After dedicating an hour to exploring the resources available in the Curriculum Community on Canvas, I found a fascinating assignment centered on crafting a persuasive argument for a real-world issue. To extend and enrich this assignment for gifted learners, I would encourage students to delve into multiple perspectives on the issue, synthesize their findings, and develop a comprehensive, nuanced argument that addresses not only potential counterarguments but also presents innovative solutions or compromises.
When providing feedback on the assignment, I will draw upon the principles discussed by Wiliam (2016) and Hattie et al. (2016), which emphasize the importance of clear, descriptive feedback that identifies specific areas of success and offers targeted suggestions for improvement. This approach ensures that feedback is constructive and actionable, enabling students to understand their strengths and areas for growth better. Additionally, I would incorporate using Rubistar to create a detailed, customized rubric that aligns with the learning objectives and effectively communicates expectations to students. This rubric would encompass various dimensions of the assignment, such as content mastery, critical thinking, clarity of expression, and organization.
By extending the assignment for gifted students and providing meaningful feedback, I aim to create a learning environment that fosters intellectual curiosity, encourages critical thinking, and supports students in their journey to becoming effective communicators and problem solvers.
