Disruptive behavior and misbehavior can occur in any classroom. If a teacher understands the needs of the student, the effect of the environment on the student, and identifies behavior patterns, it is easier to identify ways to provide support, reinforce positive behaviors, redirect behavior, and prevent a disruptive behavior from occurring in the future. The use of PBIS and other research-based strategies can be used to address and manage behavior and can create a learning environment that is safe and encourages students to engage in meaningful learning and interaction.
Complete the “Classroom Management Matrix.” When conducting research and selecting example behaviors, focus on students in the grade band relevant to your field of study. Include causes and strategies for addressing misbehavior or disruptive behavior in the inclusive classroom. Complete both the chart and the narrative.
Support your findings with a minimum of three scholarly resources.

For each cause, describe two research-based strategies for addressing and managing the misbehavior or disruptive behavior. Strategies should include specific elements of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Tiered Framework.

1 Harassing classmates or bullying.

One of the reasons why a student may harass their peers is power needs. Power needs include the need to be the leader of a group or be recognized to be superior to peers. One of the main motivations among students for this act is to assert their power over a group of peers.

1 Developing school wide procedures to prevent the students from engaging in any form of harassment- The student should find other ways of asserting their leadership in a group that does not involve bullying.
2. Establishing procedures for collecting and evaluating data to monitor correct implementation-This is because these students could be acting out due to the lack of attention from the parents at home.

2 Non-attentiveness during classroom sessions.

A student could lack attentiveness in class due to their needs not being met. For example, they could be hungry or tired, making it hard to concentrate in class. Alternatively, the students could be lacking interest in the subject, thus reducing their concentration.

1. Creating school-wide or facility-wide expectations- This could be directed towards their parents to ensure that the students have all their needs met before going to school.
2. Establishing rewards and consequences to encourage expected behavior and discourage misbehavior- The students will be motivated to concentrate in the classroom by putting these strategies in place.

3 Disrespecting the instructors.

The disrespect could result from the poor relationship between the instructors and the student. When there is no proper relationship between a teacher and the student, the student is less likely to conform to the set rules and regulations. They are also more likely to act out.

1. Establishing procedures for collecting and evaluating data to monitor correct implementation- The students could be acting out due to the poor social interactions at home. Therefore, proper data could help determine how to help the student improve the social interactions.
2 Creating school-wide expectations- The school should make it compulsory to respect the instructors, thus reducing disrespect.
