The video explains the four major domains of early childhood education, which are physical and social development, intellectual, emotional, social, and language development. The different domains are essential in a child’s development, acting as a guide to early childhood teachers on the most important aspects to focus on to enhance the child’s development. During a child’s first year, they tend to develop through exploration by touch, taste, smell, and play. The different activities assist children in the growth of all the four domains simultaneously. Physical growth assists a child with fine motor and gross motor development while social growth assists in the interaction of a child with the peers and the environment (PolicyWise for Children & Families, 2016). Emotional growth assists a child in dealing with personal problems and also boost their self-esteem. Language development assists children with communication, learning how to express themselves through words.
Domains of Early Childhood Guiding Teachers’ Decisions
The four early childhood education domains will act as a teaching guide to me as a teacher. Upon understanding the relationship between the different activities, a child is exposed to, and their development guides the type of learning activities that I will use in the classroom with the child. The teacher can incorporate different physical activities, such as games, to create an environment to enhance physical and intellectual growth (PolicyWise for Children & Families, 2016). By observing every child’s behavior, I can determine the activities every child should be more engaged in order to enhance social development. As a teacher, considering the children’s developmental domains will prove beneficial to help them when learning how to read and write and to develop their language.
