Discussion of Assembly Bill 1976 on Breastfeeding Mother
The bill amended the California Labor Code Section 1031 and it requires the employers to provide private location that is close to the working area for the lactating mothers to breastfeed the baby. The law came into effect at the start of 2019. Previously, the law stated that the employer is supposed to give a break to the employees who are breastfeeding. Although the Californian Labor Law does not state the exact length for the break, the United States Labor Department stipulates it should be around 15-20 minutes CITATION Boc19 \l 1033 (Bock, Paromita, & JhuCin, 2019).
Each of the business owners is expected to adhere to the above regulations. The regulation also targets employers and it is one of the best ways of ensuring that the lactating mothers are given equal chances at the workplace. The law is also an improvement on the existing laws on the breastfeeding mothers
