However, eyewitness’ accounts of crimes can sometimes be unreliable because the witnesses may not remember the details of what they saw or heard (Starr & McMillan, 2010). Other factors that may affect the truth that court witnesses present include personal opinions and hearsays, which largely differ from actual truth that the court will need for a possible conviction of a suspect. Taking an objective evaluation of the information the witnesses acquire requires critical thinking or evidence-based thought and not on opinions. Facts differ from speculations and opinions that the witnesses may present in a law court. A fact refers to any verifiable information that a witness may have regarding the suspect.
