Coursework Instructions:

Complete the reading response and self-assessment for the Wrap it Up project as follows:
1. Read: Artist statements and bio’s (Links to an external site.) and Chapter 2 of the Critique Handbook Download Chapter 2 of the Critique Handbook .
2. Title your artwork: remember your title, like an artist's statement, is an extension of the work. You want to draw the viewer in, but don't be to literal or explanatory, leave some questions open, leave something for the viewer to figure out on their own.
3. Next, write an artist statement for the sculptural work you create for the Wrap it Up assignment. Your statement should provide the reader with additional context. You may choose to elaborate on the content of the work, the chosen materials, the compositional choices, what influenced you to make the work, how it was made and why. Think abut what you want the viewer to know or understand about the work. Are there any emotions you hope to evoke with the work? Is there some social, political, environmental, narrative, or psychological content you mean to express through the project?

Meanings in Artwork
Art is an essential discipline and is part of our daily lives and the society we live in. Through different artworks, artists relay specific information and messages to the audience about certain issues. After viewing an artwork, for example, a sculpture, the audience understands the message being conveyed by the artist. However, the meaning of an artwork cannot be entirely depicted for any works. The meaning of an artwork relies on factors such as perceptions of the audience, political alignments, and social values or controversies associated with the artists or artwork. These are dynamic and continuously change with time. As artwork ages, its authentic meaning changes across different generations. Signification is an aspect in the field of art, which is interrelated to the meaning of an artwork. Signification focuses on the interpretation process of an artwork’s meaning ADDIN CSL_CITATION {"citationItems":[{"id":"ITEM-1","itemData":{"ISBN":"978-1-7883-1885-3","container-title":"Women and Equality in Iran : Law, Society and Activism","edition":"1","editor":[{"dropping-particle":"","family":"Alikarami","given":"Leila","non-dropping-particle":"","parse-names":false,"suffix":""}],"id":"ITEM-1","issued":{"date-parts":[["2019"]]},"language":"en","page":"9-46","publisher":"I.B.Tauris","publisher-place":"London","title":"The Development of Universal Standards on Gender Equality: The Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women","type":"chapter"},"uris":["/documents/?uuid=811c36ec-5fa1-3ab6-99d5-f597603ef174"]}],"mendeley":{"formattedCitation":"(Alikarami, 2019)","plainTextFormattedCitation":"(Alikarami, 2019)","previouslyFormattedCitation":"(Alikarami, 2019)"},"properties":{"noteIndex":0},"schema":"https://github.com/citation-style-language/schema/raw/master/csl-citation.json"}(Alikarami, 2019).
