There is a common belief in our cultures that we use as a reminder of certain values in our lives. For example, there is a common belief that, all human beings are born equal and free meaning that, we should live and eventually die equal (Palmer, 2010). These are some of the beliefs that act as a reminder to do well to others whenever possible. To meet the spirit of the belief system, which we call it the “Equilibrium,” we should treat others the way we want to be treated. This essay illustrates various definitions of belief systems providing a clear understanding of our own team belief system the “Equilibrium,” Some of the characteristic of the belief system and elements are explained while compared to other existing religious beliefs and how the tenets of the belief system “Equilibrium” can be achieved.
Definition of a Belief System
Beliefs are narrations that give us personal sense of reality. These phrases are used to make sense of the world around us. Therefore, belief systems are important because they help individuals maneuver through their social world. These systems help people perceive, and interpret issues and occurrences, eventually, determining the course of action people take by either changing their behaviours or reinforcing the existing belief that was already in place. In our dancing group team, the belief system “Equilibrium,” forms part and parcel of our lives providing us with guidance of how we are supposed to behave and relate with each other for a common purpose (Martin, 2002).
Features of the Belief System “Equilibrium”
One of the common ideologies about the belief system “Equilibrium” is that people are all humans, born equal and free, meaning that we will die equal. This believes is meant to encourage us to act responsibly towards others especially, not only within our group but also with other people. The belief system addresses the racial and ethnic diversity in various settings likes in organizations or learning institutions. It focuses on similarities among people by reducing their differences. The belief system “Equilibrium” is suitable in a multicultural setting such as our group as it celebrates the differences among the members by reducing prejudice (West& Levy, 2002).
