Career Timeline
Create a timeline identifying the steps you need to complete in your career path and the sequence of those steps. Refer to the "The Accounting Profession: Explanation of Externships, Internships, and Full-Time Jobs" document for further assistance. Include the following items with the corresponding completion dates:
Externships (e.g., summer leadership programs) and/or Internship(s). Where will you apply for internships and when will you complete that internship? Be sure to become familiar with the hiring timelines for the companies, such as public accounting firms, as they interview for positions generally a full year before you would actually start working.
Coursework completion. Undergraduate programs.

Certifications, such as CPA, CMA, CFE, etc. When will you sit for the exams? How will you prepare? If applicable, why is a certification important to you?
Full-time position. Where do you want to work? When will you start? What steps will you take to get hired at this particular company?
In addition to the timeline, summarize the assignment with a discussion of how you will accomplish your end goal, the full-time job. The summary portion should be between 400-750 words, may be written in the first-person, and must be grammatically correct.

Prior job experience is always a major factor for employers during recruitment as it proves the capabilities of the prospective employee. Some of the ways students can widen their experience scope are through externships and internships. Besides establishing career relationships, internships allow learners to connect theory to practice and a deeper understanding of introductory topics. Preparing a career timeline helps students to structure a feasible timetable of the career development steps. Establishing a clear timeline before embarking on the transition from student to professional life enables them to handle the required preparations, initiate contact with prospective employers, and get the necessary resources.
1 November to December 2020- Externship
Although externships are usually applied a year before enrolment, the next month will include assuming some newer roles as a way to prepare for next year’s internship. I currently work at NPL Construction in Illinois which makes it easier to start the externship from 30th November to 14th December before the holidays. The externship period is only two weeks before the start of the internship allowing for an efficient transition.
2 January to March 2021- Internship
I am planning to start my internship at NPL Construction in January as an expansion or roles from externship. Unlike the externship which will last for two weeks, the internship will last for three months with an input of 20 hours every week. The choice of the January application instead of April or September in the Company’s distribution of intern admittance.
