1. Which character will initiate the dialogue (i.e. which character is the one making the initial effort to approach the other person and resolve the conflict)? (2 marks for maintaining this character’s perspective throughout the assignment)
Malik was disrespectful throughout the meeting because he did not direct his words to Gina, even when they were about Gina. Thus, Malik should initiate a conversation with Gina to resolve their issues.

1 Put yourself in that character’s shoes and engage in Step 1: Self-Reflection. Describe what your chosen character might consider and reflect on as they prepare for a conversation. (2 marks)
Malik may reflect on his actions during the meeting as he prepares for the conversation. He may also reflect on his actions toward Aaliyah and Gina. He respects Aaliyah because she is superior, but Gina is treated ordinarily because they are in the same position.

2 How will you (as that character) request a fuller conversation? What will you do to ensure that the conversation feels safe (emotionally and physically) for both parties involved? Explain your reasoning. (2 marks)
Malik may request to speak with Gina privately. Talking in private will allow each other to say what they want. Malik must ensure that they are both emotionally prepared when they talk. Being emotionally ready will allow them to have a good conversation that is also safe.

3 How will you initiate the conversation? Rather than simply describe this, write out a dialogue that might actually occur between Gina and Malik as the conversation begins. You might want to include greetings, indicate where any small talk might occur (can simply say ), show how your character transitions into talking about the conflict, and use dialogue to indicate how the other character might initially react. (2 marks)
Malik will ask Gina to talk privately to discuss the issues they are facing.
Malik: Good morning, Gina! How are things going for you?
Gina: I am not very good. And it has gotten worse now that I have seen your face.
Malik: Please accept my apologies. Can we discuss this privately? Please notify me when you are ready.
Gina: I will consider it.
