The Union and the Right-to-Work Law
The organization for this case study belongs to the automobile manufacturing industry. It builds and sells cars and automotive parts. The company is based in Arizona U.S., which is a Right-to-Work state. In America, a law gives an employee the right to choose whether to join a union or not. The law is commonly called the Right-to-Work law. However, a state can be a Right-to-Work state or not (Farber, 1984). Such a fact exists because the law does not apply to the whole of America. Arizona, the organization's state, is a right-to-work state because it implements the law in the working industry. This means that the employees in the organization are not forced to become part of a union. Though, the employees are not prohibited from joining a union.
Unionization is a form of alliance among employees (Wright, 1996). The unions bargain with the business organization for the employees' fair work contracts. Their method of keeping and fighting for their labor rights and compensations is through bargaining. The employees in a union negotiate with the company to reach an agreement that benefits both parties.
The Negotiation
The union of employees in the organization is bargaining with the company. The union's concern is the toxic actions of the head office to the plea of the employees. Most of the employees have experienced the same treatment in different situations. One instance was when an employee requested a paid leave that is allowed in the company's guidelines. She was advised to request a paid leave next time. However, the next time did not happen. Some employees have also experienced being recommended for next time, but the head company ignored them.
