Vertical integration is a growth strategy where firms enter into activities related to the production cycle of a product or service through the combination of the companies that initially operated separately.
Amazon is becoming more vertically integrated by linking the storing, sorting and shipping services as well as different parts of the supply chain. Amazon has also increased suburban warehouses and neighborhood package-sorting centers to grow its presence and competes with FedE and UPS and different retailers.
The company consolidated its storing, sorting and shipping activities and became more competitive and Amazon, it was and is a big spender to gain greater shipping control and reduce costs. There is also focus on heavy lifting allowing the company to deliver fewer orders using different transportation means through land, sea and air.
