Answer the following questions about a patient's spiritual needs in light of the Christian worldview.
In 200-250 words, respond to the following: Should the physician allow Mike to continue making decisions that seem to him to be irrational and harmful to James, or would that mean a disrespect of a patient's autonomy? Explain your rationale.
In 400-500 words, respond to the following: How ought the Christian think about sickness and health? How should a Christian think about medical intervention? What should Mike as a Christian do? How should he reason about trusting God and treating James in relation to what is truly honoring the principles of beneficence and nonmaleficence in James's care?

Introduction
The case study under investigation analyzes the decisions made by Mike and Joanne regarding the medical intervention to their son James. Mike and Joanne are staunch Christians who believe in the healing power of God. As a result, they have delayed the treatment of James, hoping that God would heal him. The decision of the couple to delay the treatment is analyzed in the Christian faith’s perspective. Additionally, the analysis examines the actions that physicians should undertake when they encounter clients like Mike and Joann, who have a Christian worldview regarding treatment. Furthermore, the issue of patient autonomy is examined in the context of the Christian worldview.
Question 1
Mike and Joanne have delayed the treatment of their son in the hope that God would perform a healing miracle. However, this has not happened, and the physician is aware that James needs a transplant in less than a year. Given that the physician knows the adverse effects of delaying the treatment, he/she should not allow the couple to make irrational decisions regarding the treatment of their child. The physician needs to inform the couple that further delay could complicate issues for James. There is a need for the physician to make it clear that while it is God who heals, the couple must seek medical attention.
Humans are vulnerable to making irrational decisions. Rather than evaluating all the possible alternatives, humans tend to undertake the analysis on a limited number of options (Hastie & Dawes, 2010). Mike and Joanne have not considered all the alternatives before deciding that prayer would save their son. They have not considered the effect that the delay in undertaking the dialysis hurts James. They do not make a decision based on scientific concepts of rationality and instead allow their beliefs to influence their choice. Mike and Joanne have based their decision on the belief that God will work a miracle in their son. In this case, the physician must enable the couple to analyze the issue from an informed point of view. Instead of basing their decision on faith alone, the physician should assist them to understand the consequences of further delay.

Christianity consists of different denominations which have different beliefs regarding sickness and health. It is not possible to outline a particular belief that should apply uniformly to all the Christians. There is nothing wrong with considering sickness as a test from God. Indeed, Christians are bound to undergo through tests and trials as God tests their faith. Sickness can be a possible way through which God uses to test the faith of his children. However, amid sickness, God wants his children to enjoy good health. Hence, A Christian must do whatever it takes to live a healthy life.
A Christian should not be opposed to medical intervention. In Mark 2:17, Jesus indicated that “It is not healthy who need a doctor, but the sick” (The Holy Bible, 1984).
