Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: Concern Micronutrient and the Factors Contributing to it

Case Study Instructions:

Case:
Natasha is a 45 y/o nurse who works for a local hospital. She goes to her doctor for her annual physical. She reports that she has been feeling more tired and has gained about 15-20 pounds in the last year. She has been under much stress at work, raising her teenagers and assisting her elderly parents. At her visit, her doctor voices much concern over her lab work and weight gain. A 24-hour recall of her diet is also recorded (see food report Download see food report). She is diagnosed with NAFLD, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, and is set up with a follow-up with her physician after she sees a Registered Dietitian.

Step 1
Review the case study, food report, and resources.
Review the video on how to identify nutrients that are not in range.
https://youtu(dot)be/r5g4ZH0_V0c
Students will:
Identify risk factors for NAFLD
Identify the dietary and lifestyle components to treat & prevent NAFLD.
Identify the differences between NAFLD and alcoholic-related liver disease.
Identify appropriate management of NAFLD
Step 2 Answer the Questions in a post.
The post should thoroughly answer each of the following questions:
1-Looking at the Bar Graph Report, which micronutrient is a concern for NAFLD and why? only identify the micronutrients that are not in range AND significant to NAFLD and explain why they are a problem for NAFLD.
2-What attributes and lifestyle factors may be contributing to her diagnosis of NAFLD?
3-What recommendations would you give Natasha to improve her diet, lifestyle, and anthropometric data to reverse her condition?
4-In an effort to lower her saturated fat intake, Natasha decided to make her breakfast sandwich at home. Instead of the high-fat sausage, she chooses 4 slices of organic sugar-free turkey bacon. Looking at the Nutrition Facts label, evaluate the nutrients, and explain if replacing sausage with 4 slices of turkey bacon would be a good choice for her or not. If it is a poor choice, what would be a good alternative?

Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease
Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) includes several conditions indicated by evidence of macro-vesicular steatosis and lack of secondary causes of hepatic steatoses. The risk factors for NAFLD include sedentary lifestyles, obesity, unhealthy diets, dyslipidemias, elevated alanine transferase (ALT), and diabetes (Kudaravalli & John, 2021). NAFLD prevention and treatment using lifestyle and dietary aspects incorporate lifestyle changes, such as physical activities and proper nutrition, to enhance weight loss and control hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and hyperglycemia (Kudaravalli & John, 2021). NAFLD differs from alcoholic-related liver disease in that the latter is characterized by significant alcohol intake, unlike the former. The appropriate management of NAFLD includes patient education on lifestyle and nutrition, such as proper nutrition and...
