Scientific study is critical because it provides a systematic way of addressing a certain problem. It is through research that investigators can identify a problem, and then work towards solving it for the better of society. While conducting research, investigators use different methodologies depending on the scope of the study. As a result, researchers end up with different types of research like qualitative and quantitative. For a study to be complete, all the necessary components need to be included. One of the major components that constitute a good study entails the inclusion of appropriate evaluation questions. These are instrumental in guiding the research process and determining the overall significance. They act as the foundation upon which a study is built, shaping critical aspects of a study like design, methodology, data collection and analysis. When Evaluation questions are clear and well-defined, they make it possible to conduct meaningful and impactful research studies. In the article, “Redesigning a Research Methods Course for Teachers,” Eastmond, Louviere, and Quinn have used evaluation questions to guide their study. This paper seeks to assess the quality of evaluation questions for the research article cited above.
The evaluation questions were reasonable and contextualized to fit the scenario. The researchers followed ethical principles when formulating the questions. The questions do not in any way discriminate against any group. For instance, the questions are gender-neutral to address the needs of males and females. When Evaluation questions are not gender sensitive, this makes it easy for diverse audiences to address them. However, the researchers ensured that the questions were appropriate for all genders, hence allowing them to be applied across diverse audiences. They avoided any inappropriate language that could discriminate against any audience. The evaluation questions are inclusive and address the learning needs of students, even those with special needs. In recent times, it has become important to ensure that classrooms are inclusive and address the needs of diverse students (Possi & Milinga, 2018). The idea of general inclusive classrooms is becoming common as instructors seek ways of making classrooms conducive for all learners, including those with disabilities.
Having reasonable evaluation questions facilitated knowledge transfer from the study to the audience. Kothari & Armstrong (2011) demonstrate that community-based organizations face a set of challenges and concerns regarding the knowledge translation process. In the health sector, knowledge translation ensures an effective exchange between health researchers and users. Since evaluation questions are a major determinant of the knowledge generated, it is instrumental to ensure that they serve the purpose. In the article, Eastmond, Louviere & Quinn (2008) have ensured that the evaluation questions are reasonable enough to facilitate knowledge transfer to the intended audience. Effective knowledge transfer will ensure that the findings of the article are used to address real-life challenges in the education sector.
