Teachers play an essential role in making educational decisions for students. It is the responsibility of teachers to identify areas where students excel and areas where students need to improve. As a result, it is the responsibility of teachers to decide what types of assessments they will use to identify their student’s weaknesses and strengths. Furthermore, the assessment results will enable teachers to make accurate and efficient educational decisions (Kippers et al., 2018). Teachers with this ability will be able to successfully fulfill their roles as members of the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team. Hence, a teacher who understands how to identify student assessments correctly can help students make wise educational decisions.
Scott, a six-year-old first-grade student, exhibits Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder symptoms. He is suspected of having ADHD because of his aggressive and disruptive behavior, unwillingness to follow directions for social or play activities, and tendency to isolate himself (Oudeans & Boreson, 2002). As a result, Scott’s teachers must decide which assessments will help them determine his strengths and weaknesses, allowing them to make educational decisions for him.
Firstly, the teacher can administer the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – 4th Edition for Scott. It is an assessment that is designed to assess a child’s intellectual capacity. Specifically, it is designed to assess general cognitive ability and performance in Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Working Memory, and Speed of processing (Wechsler, 2009). The teacher will be able to assess Scott’s strengths in the following areas using this assessment.
