Alisha: Case Study
Behaviorism theory is a form of psychology study. This theory was brought forward by scientists who were operating in various Universities to establish the cause of some psychological issues. The study of mental problems was initiated in the mid 1930s after these scientists established that, a number of people had been affected psychologically. According to this theory, individual behavior is not related to internal unconscious conflicts, issues with object representation, or repression. Instead, the behavioral theory employs the approach of learning theory in explaining human behavior. In essence, this theory posts that irrational behavior such as depression is leaned. Psychologists claim that unhelpful behaviors can as well be unlearned since they are acquired through teach (Reiss et al, 2013).
In this case, I can postulate that Alisha’s depression status is also learned. This is through the tragic death of her husband in a road accident, and therefore, feeling unable to cope with the loss. By staying with only her little kid, there is no doubt that she feels lonely as any normal human being. What she needs now is a counselor who would be able to restore her emotions and make her cope with the situation. She should also find someone to assist her in a finding a baby sitter as she goes about her normal business. In essence, Alisha should be seeking good companies who would be able to keep her close at this moment of depression. As I mentioned earlier, councilors are also very crucial at this point. She should be encouraged to seek services of councilors who will be able to deal with her situation and advise her accordingly. Owing to her single motherhood condition, she might also be experiencing financial difficulties adding to the fact that she is also undertaking classes. This could be adding to her psychological woes.
The main factor having much effect on Alisha’s life according to me is the psychological problem she is experiencing for her loneliness. Another concern is the lack of a baby sitter to take care of girl while she is in other duties. Involving herself in good companies and seeking the support of the campus administration will therefore, assist in solving some of the issues.
Lewinsohn (1984) observed that a combination of lack of personal skills as well as stressors in an individual’s environment are the main cause of depression. This is virtually true in this case of Alisha whereby, she lacks skills of coping with the problem at hand. In addition, the environment in which she is could also be described as not being very conducive as we discovered that she is lonely. Loneliness could have influenced her depression condition. If Alisha found the home or school environment to be conducive, then she could have enjoyed life in these places. ...
