Importance of Usability
I. Introduction
Usability is influential in the success of websites because it influences their user-friendliness, competitiveness, and survival. According to Weichbroth (2020), the usability of a website or a web application determines its success or failure because users judge a website based on its ease of use and establish whether it is a good website and whether they would frequently visit it or not. Website usability is important because it enhances customers' (users') trust and credibility, user satisfaction, and purchase and repurchase intentions.
II. Body
Website usability is important not only to users but also to businesses that run/own websites. Literature reveals that website usability gives users the benefit of efficiently and effectively achieving their goals with ease (Weichbroth, 2020) while also promoting the success of the website from a developer/ business perspective because the information on the website can be easily accessed by users (Sparks, 2019), who are the target of any website.
A. Enhances Trust and Credibility
Website usability enhances users' trust in a website and its perceived credibility.
1. Akhmedova et al. (2021) indicate that website usability plays an instrumental role in building and enhancing trust among users in the sharing economy platforms. This is crucial in the survival of sharing economy platforms because they rely on interpersonal trust between users and service providers.
2. Oyibo and Vassileva (2017) found that perceived website usability plays a significant role in predicting the perceived credibility of a website among users.
3. One of the key findings by Shehzad et al. (2017) is that web usability directly influences users' trust, such that the higher the usability, the higher the trust among users regarding a specific website. This is in regard to e-commerce, where physical interaction is absent, and buyers and sellers depend on the trust they have in the platform they use for commerce.
B. Improves Customer/User Satisfaction
Website usability improves the satisfaction of customers (users) because it allows them to efficiently and effectively access information from the website and meet their goals.
1. In their study, Dianat et al. (2019) found that website usability plays a vital role in informing users' satisfaction in the banking sector and as such, web developers should put in more effort when designing banking websites to enhance website usability and ultimately improve customer satisfaction.
2. In another study, Karani et al. (2021) established that the various dimensions of website usability (content, readability, organization, navigation, user interface, effectiveness, and p...
