Assignment Instructions:
Mini- Study Part I
In this course you will conduct a mini study. You will survey 50 people through any method you choose to find out information on your topic. You will then calculate the statistics for your data. It is important to remember your mini study should use quantitative values since this is a statistics course so you can complete the required calculations. When you pick a topic, make sure it is something people are comfortable answering and that you only use adults. Complete this worksheet and then begin your survey once it is graded so that you can write up your results in Module 7.
Item Description:
1 State your topic.
2 Who is the population for your claim? Justify your statement.
3 What question(s) will you ask in your survey to gather data on your claim? Explain the rationale for each question.
4 What variables will be in your study? What type of variable are they (ordinal, nominal, discrete, continuous, etc)?
5 Where will you post your survey and how will it reach your target population? (Facebook, email, in person, etc)
6 How will you collect your data? (Survey Monkey, Facebook Question, By hand/Excel, etc)
7 What type of sampling method will you use? Justify your choice and cite a reference supporting your decision
8 What 2 types of graphs that you have learned about are the most appropriate for your data? Justify your statement and cite a reference supporting your decision.
*Hint: think about if your data may have outliers, is quantitative, is categorical vs interval, etc.
9. What 8 descriptive statistics that you have learned about are the most appropriate for your data? Justify your statement and cite a reference supporting your decision. *Hint: think about if the data has outliers, is quantitative, is categorical vs interval, etc. *Note: if you have more than one survey question you can count statistics on EACH*

Mini Study 1: Sleep Deprivation among University Students
Student’s Name

The topic I choose to research is Sleep Deprivation among University Students. My claim is that college students report fewer total hours of sleep than the recommended amount for adults. An adult requires seven or more hours of sleep to maintain good health and well-being (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2017). Sleep deprivation results from reduced quality or quantity of sleep. Many college students sacrifice their sleep for academic and social commitments leading to changes in their sleep routines and poor sleeping habits. Sleep deprivation may lead to an increased likelihood of academic failure, anxiety, drowsy-driving incidents, and inability to concentrate. Therefore, a population of university students will be suitable to investigate my claim.
I will ask three questions in my survey to collect the appropriate data on my claim. The first question will be: How old are you? The individuals required to participate in this survey should be adults. Therefore, this question will help me to establish whether the respondents fit my target audience. The next question will be: What is your gender? This question will allow me to assess whether the total hours of sleep recorded for male students are different from that of females. The last survey question will be: On average, how many hours of sleep do you get daily? This question will allow me to determine the average sleeping hours of college students. Also, it will help in assessing whether the students record fewer hours of sleep than the recommended amount.
The variables in this study include gender, age, and hours of sleep per night. Gender is a nominal variable, while hours of sleep per night and age are continuous variables.
This study will use an online survey design because it is faster and more accurate. It is also the best option owing to the effects of the COVID-19 disease that require minimal physical contact. I will share the links to my survey on Facebook college student groups to help reach more students in various study years. The link will direct students willing to participate to an external site hosting the survey.
The data will be gathered by linking the Google Form to a spreadsheet where the answers will be automatically recorded and saved to...
