GUIDELINES FOR CASE ANALYSES
Individual Submission
As mentioned in the syllabus, each student needs to submit 2 written responses to the case studies. The first one is to be selected from any of the 3 case studies under ‘Business Strategy’. These are:
1. Apple in 2015 - submission by Feb 17th, 10am ET
2. Aldi: The Dark Horse Discounter - submission by Feb 24th , 10am ET
3. eBay, Inc. and Amazon.com (A) - submission by March 2nd , 10am ET
The second written submission is based on your choice of any of the following 3 case studies:
1. Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy: In Search of Synergies in the Global Luxury Industry
- submission by March 23rd , 10am ET
2. The Best Deal Gillette Could Get? - submission by April 6th , 10am ET
3. P&G Japan: The SK-II Globalization Prj - submission by April 13th , 10am ET
Each case analysis is due at 10am ET on the day in which that case is covered. Having been a student for many years, I realize that the temptation will be to choose the last case scheduled for April 13th. However, doing this will leave you no room for error and could interfere with studying for your Exam and preparing your team presentation. Thus, I recommend completing earlier cases. Complete the case by handing me a paper copy at the start of the relevant class & submitting it to Turnitin via the course Blackboard site.
Your case analyses consist of you writing answers to each of the questions associated with your chosen cases. You can find the case questions on the course Blackboard site, under Course Documents -> Cases. This course is designated as writing intensive, so I expect your answers to be written with, well, intensity. I expect them to be thorough, persuasive, logical, easy to follow, grammatically correct, spell-checked, well-edited, and proofread. Your grade will reflect these expectations.
As a rule of thumb, an adequately intense answer to each question contains 250 to 500 words. Each answer must be based on the concepts addressed in the relevant chapter and be supported by the facts presented in the case. I’m not asking for your opinion. Provide real analysis. If you are not using the concepts and the case facts to answer the questions, then you are doing it wrong.
This is an individual assignment. You are to complete each case analysis by yourself. It will be screened by Turnitin. Do not be tempted to plagiarize. You are expected to fully abide by the RU Honor Pledge in this and all assignments, and I am required to report and prosecute violations of academic integrity when I encounter them. Happens every semester to at least one person. Don’t let it be you.

P & G Japan: The SK-II Globalization PRJ Case Study
1. The SK-II presentation to the global leadership team (GLT) should align in consideration of various factors to ensure that the product gets a positive response in its desire to venture into global markets. First, the general perspective of all GLT members about the commodity is primary in the presentation. Do all the members like the product? Do they think the given benefits are viable to the end-users? Do they believe in the positive impacts bound to be experienced by the users in the global population? The analysis for the meeting should involve a distinct step of identifying the feelings of GLT towards SK-II and the changes it may bring to the worldwide community. However, getting a positive response from members such as Lafley, the head of the team would not create a distinct conviction that SK-II should enter the global market (Bartlett, 2004). The analysis should indulge the arrival and reaction towards the project in almost all the economies over different countries in the world.
The presentation should reveal the means of navigation and realization in various countries. For instance, using people with a critical sense of judgment and revelation of benefits of the products such as socialites and the investors dealing with beauty products in such countries would help in getting more women to like the product (Bartlett, 2004). On the other hand, the entry will dwell on the most viable target markets to ensure that consumers can meet the offered prices irrespective of the prices given by the competing companies and products. According to Bartlett (2004), if the product targets the wealthy and sophisticated individuals in Shanghai, Beijing, and Guangzhou in China, it would gain the anticipated sales and benefits immediately, resulting in dominance irrespective of the competing products. The tactics will aid in the realization, growth, and dominance of SK-II in different countries after the creation of awareness on the beauty benefits yielded by the product.
2. SK-II has the potential to become a global brand within Procter & Gamble’s worldwide operations. Although the product has failed major loops of failure in the local market, the constraint does not justify the inability to entry in the global market because solving the layoffs yielded positive continuity in sales of the products. Just like any other investment, losses may occur, but they do not become the ultimate points of the venture. Hence, the product will find significant ways to pave in the markets to make sales and achieve dominance through the conquering of any barriers in the markets. Although the international growth statistics reveal slow rates overseas, the results revealed great improvement. Bartlett (2004) argues that the expansion plans for the Japanese product instituted in 1948, revealed benefits after three decades. However, reaped profits outweighed the invested efforts and time. “Growing first in Europe, then Latin America and Asia, by 1980, the P & G’s operations in 27 overseas countries accounted for over 25% of its 11billion worldwide sales” (Bartlett, 2004)....
