Discrimination is cruel or unfair treatment. Discrimination in the workplace involves when an employee undergoes cruel or unfair treatment based on their race, nationality, religion or physical disability. It can take place in different ways. Discrimination has been one of the major issues that are faced in the workplace. The law does not allow any form of discrimination in the workplace. If there is discrimination the employer is dealt with the law. Each and every employer is responsible for the welfare of their employees.
In an article published by the New York Daily News report i found an article reading, "I can't hire you because you’re black." The Framboise Patisserie in New York City was sued for discrimination while hiring of new employees. A lady known as Jamilah applied for a job as a counter girl at the bakery in 2011. She went for the interview and was interviewed by the co-owner named Patty. Patty turned away the lady by saying that she could not hire her because she was black. She went further on to tell her that she could not hire her because she was not a good fit for the position and that being black would scare away their customers (Insureon, 2014).
