Summary
The journal Introduction to Sociology discusses various sociological issues in a standard-setting. First, the author reveals the three types of leadership; democratic, authoritarian, and leave it alone leadership (Openstax College, 2013). While Democratic leaders allow the minors allows the minors to take part in the decision making processes, authoritarian leaders give strict in the assignment of duties and leave it alone leaders enable the group members to make decisions and manage their lives without guidance. Conformity is also defined as the degree to which individuals belonging to particular group respect all the desired customs and expectations (Openstax College, 2013). Adherence to the set principles reveals the true nature of an individual as a member of a specific society.
The author mentions the government, schools, businesses, and healthcare to show the formal organizations present in a modern setting. Societal organizations occur in three types of normative context, coercive form, and useful environment of backgrounds. In coercive organizations, the members are forced to join the group even if it's not their will or wishes to become participants. The normative organization emphasizes the interests of every member of society. On the other hand, utilitarian organizations attract members on a conditional basis of gaining various benefits from the community (Openstax College, 2013). The journal points out on Bureaucracies, which is termed as an unfriendly organization to join. Standard nations major on the division of labor, a norm that demands the composition of a society whereby all members have specific tasks to perform towards building the community. Finally, the author reveals the issue of McDonaldization, whereby the investment in fast foods has increased in the most common social institutions.
