Photos speak a thousand words. As a frozen moment in time, they leave room to imagination on what led to the moment and what happened thereafter. This room for imagination is often exploited by taking some thought-provoking photos that speak volumes of the subjects in the photo. In some cases, photos are used to dehumanize people and rob them their humanity. I.e, a photo of a uniformed person in a warlike environment is always thought to be a machine designed to kill and inflict pain on other humans. When these pictures are circulated, they crank up emotion machines either evoking anger or hatred towards soldiers.
