It is from the point of knowledge that one acquires an informed understanding of their current circumstances or situations in life across the social, political, economic, as well as cultural aspects of life. Acquiring the said knowledge, however, involves an elaborate process through which human beings develop their capacities and abilities to engage the primary elements of their bodies towards achieving enlightenment. It is important to reiterate the fact that acquiring such a status function to provide an understanding of a wide range of concepts and principles of life, which create an understanding of how the world operates. An awareness of a person’s surrounding environment or situation is integral to the effective application of the knowledge gained from the same towards both the development of the self and society as a whole. Education also forms another excellent platform through which a person gains knowledge of various concepts across equally diverse disciplines or fields of study.
Similarly, education serves to provide knowledge through which individuals develop their critical and creative thinking processes and abilities. Education plays a significant role in the development of a person’s intellectual capacity, which allows for both personal enhancement and the development of society upon effective application. In essence, both self-awareness and education function as primary sources for human knowledge through which individuals gain an informed understanding of a particular subject, issue, or aspect of life. Additionally, self-awareness and education serve as agents of change to a person’s way of thinking as well as their personalities with the new information and knowledge gained in life. Like “The Ship of Theseus,” human beings undergo various transitions of their personalities from facing equally diverse experiences in life. Albert Camus’ The Myth of Sisyphus and Plato’s The Republic: Book VII (Allegory of the Cave) find common ground in the essence of knowledge gained through the outlined platforms, and its overall impact on the lives of individuals and society as a whole.
