Ashley Bryan is the author of the book Freedom over Me. Through his writing, Bryan seems to support some of the oppressed persons in the community. Some of these persons include slaves who worked for their masters without any substantial monetary gain. Bryan uses historical documents from the 17th and 18th Century with the intent of showing the plight some of these slaves had to endure under the tough rules of their masters. After reading the book, I noticed that the author used various stylistic devices to communicate his message. Some of the literary devices include personification, allegory, and poems. Arguably, the use of these literary devices helped the author to express his feelings and standpoint on what he felt about slavery.
