Article Instructions:

Essay #2: Source Collection and Analysis:
For the first assignment, we focused on understanding the complexities of argument and learning to recognize elements of arguments in written texts. We have observed that conversations surrounding Cultural Diversity occur in a variety of fields and, subsequently, concern many different topics. For Essay 2, you will collect 5-10 sources on a topic related to cultural Diversity. You will then use these sources to create an Annotated Bibliography, which will include the MLA citation for each source, as well as a 1-2 paragraph annotation that summarizes and analyzes each source.
Your essay should identify similarities and/or differences in each article's argument in order to discover what those similarities or differences might represent, reveal, or demonstrate. Successful essays will discuss elements of ethos, pathos, and logos.
Purpose:
The purpose of Essay 2 is to further develop your research and critical thinking skills as you begin to work with multiple sources. More specifically, Essay 2 encourages you to more readily identify similarities and differences in multiple arguments and to translate those observations into insightful and sophisticated discussions of the elements of those arguments through in-depth and thorough analyses.
Considerations:
Try to find sources that discuss a topic that you are passionate about. Remember, these smaller essays are meant to help you build up to the research paper that you will write later in the semester. Focus on analyzing and evaluating each author's arguments; you are not taking a stance on Cultural Diversity at this point. Your rhetoric should be more “truthseeking” than “persuasion” based.

Fox Robin, Food and Eating: An Anthropological Perspective. Social Issues Research Centre, 2014. Retrieved on 25th from /publik/foxfood.pdf
Fox argues that one eats what they are; the meals that people consume have specific boundaries that regulate what one eats and when to consume whatever they eat. Fox likeness food to the fashion industry and says there are many food categories as there are many dressing fashions. He further notes “When various ethnic groups are forcibly thrown together, there is both an intensifying of food identity and a growing mishmash”. He gives an example of the increasing identification of food types especially in the restaurants where people try to cook as many types of meals to serve all the different cultures. The dining setting and styles, eating in ceremonies and tables and table manners are all influenced by the social and cultural boundaries of individuals. This article is relevant in my study to help me understand the different perspectives of cultural identity in foods.
