Across the world, there are some cultures that similar and others that are immensely different in their way of life and customs. The United States is one of the countries in the world with very diverse cultures. Peru is a country in South America with unique culture that anyone visiting there would be glad to learn and understand. Though the U.S. and Peru cultures differ significantly, there are also some similarities. In this way, it is important to compare and contrast the United States and Peru cultures in terms of language, behaviors, customs/symbols, and even material objects.
Both the U.S. and Peru appreciate a diverse array of languages that are used by their populations. However, in Peru, there are designated official languages which are Spanish, Quechua, and even Aymara. All the same, the country has more than 40 other languages spoken by various ethnicities across the country (Peru, 2018). Most people in Peru speak Spanish or Quechua (Adventure Life, 2018). On its part, the U.S. does not have any official language though English is the de facto language. There are more than 350 different languages that are found in the U.S. English is the most spoken language and after English the other common languages are Spanish, French, Chinese, and Vietnamese (Zimmermann, 2017).
Both the U.S. and Peru have behaviors that have been influenced by European immigration and other cultures such as Asia, Africa, and Middle East. For example, food in Peru and the U.S. is mostly borrowed from other cultures though some of the foods in these countries are indigenous. Others have come from different cultures or countries. In Peru food differs depending on the region. For example, the coastal regions is known for its cuisine of seafood. The highlands often make food with potatoes, corn, and meat although both regions use soups, as well as rise as the dietary staples (Adventure Life, 2018).
