Section 1: Hypothesis
Rizvi et al. (2016) theorized that dialectal behavior therapy (DBT) through DBT Coach and standard DBT treatment could help reduce the suicidal and self-harming ideation of patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) in six months. Moreover, the research intends to investigate other variables such as serviceability, adequacy, feasibility, and the app's immediate effects.
The independent variables are the DBT Coach and standard DBT, while the dependent variables include serviceability, adequacy, feasibility, and immediate effects of the app.
Section 2: Methodology
Sixteen participants met the following inclusion criteria: 1) Diagnosis of BPD or recurrent non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) or suicidal efforts who want to experience a comprehensive DBT in a mid-Atlantic university inside a DBT clinic house.; 2) Residence is within a 1-hour commuting radius from the clinic; 3) Agrees with video tapings of evaluations and psychotherapy sessions.; 4) No concurrent medical other than psychiatric treatment 5) No greater than or equal to six months of prior comprehensive DBT treatment. The exclusion criteria are as follows: 1) Intelligence quotient lower than 70; 2) primary psychotic disorder; 3) Substance withdrawal phase; 4) Current diagnosed psychotic disorder; and 5) Current life-threatening disease (Rizvi et al., 2016).
The primary conceptual variables were operationalized using the following outcome measures: 1) Diagnostic interviews were utilized during the pretreatment phase to analyze all the axes of Structured Clinical Interview for all the participants' DSM-IV. 2) To understand the extent of the participants' psychopathology, the Global Assessment Functioning Scale (GAF) using SCID-I, General Severity Index (GSI), and Emotion Regulation Scale were utilized. The last two were self-reported questionnaires. 3) To measure the participants' possible morbid actions, the Self-Injurious Thoughts and Behaviors Interview, long-form, was required. 4) The DBT Ways of Coping Checklist was utilized to understand the participants' DBT skills use. 5) The DBT coach app expectations were measured using a five-point Likert Scale. 6) A self-made 16-point questionnaire w...
