The senior scientist asks that you critique and replicate an experiment within the software defined networking, mobile computing, or Internet of Things domain to demonstrate your research and technical prowess to the group. They have not specified which experiment to analyze; however, they stipulate that it must be found within a peer-reviewed publication within the last ten years and ask that you produce a short report presenting your critique and experience replicating the experiment.First, locate a research study that contains a reproducible experiment taking the time and resource constraints of the course into consideration.Second, analyze the original study and address the items described below:• Describe the problem addressed. Reproduce a Published Experiment
In the article by Stajkic et al (2016), the researchers sought to determine whether a downscaled testbed was effective in real deployment of networks of applications for running protocols and the Internet of Things (IoT). Running tests for (IoT) applications requires both financial and human resources to mimic the real world, even while there is reduced time for experiments. When there is a choice between simulation and testbeds, it is potentially challenging to assess the better choice to determine how developments will work. However, for the testbeds, there is evaluation including using the relevant hardware devices to achieve this, and this includes the routers and switches. For the experiments, this is important to test the applications and the real systems. The lack of scalable network testbeds affects the ability of researchers testing how applications can work in real life deployments.
The researchers successfully tested the downscaled testbed to be used for the real deployment, and using the suggested methodology, they compared the results of network throughput and typologies (Stajkic et al., 2016). Since there is a need to identify practical solutions to experimentation testbeds, the downscaled option is conceivable as the large scale operations require resources and are not feasible in certain situations. The study was able to show that the proposed downscaling procedure was effective to produce results that would be deployed in the real world. This is more reliant than depending on simplifying the system requirements as this affects the reliability of experimental results when considering real life deployment.
