The most important idea in this chapter is the importance and applicability of rewards in the current corporate setup. This is because, since the advent of the new millennium, there have been various changes, both in terms of technology as well as the social aspects of people. These have in turn affected how organizations are run, since it is the people who run them. Changes in preferences, attitudes as well as needs, have placed companies in very precarious positions, especially for those that fail to embrace flexibility. When a business decides to stay rigid despite the ever-blowing winds of change, then the impacts on it are bound to be adverse.
The chapter basically gives details on how rewards should be tailored, so as to match the various expectations of the employees in the workplace. Even though a salary increase might be appropriate, there are various parameters that need to be considered in the process. If such parameters aren’t considered, then there is a high chance that the increase might not bring the desired motivation on the employees. Businesses are also supposed to find out creative ways of designing their rewards program and not just salary increments, especially when there is a new strategy to be employed at the workplace.
