Introduction
Every year, about 1.7 million Americans suffers from nosocomial infections and 99,000 of them die due to these infections CITATION Patnd \l 1033 (PatientCareLink.Org, n.d.). This is surprising considering that nosocomial infections could be prevented through both the pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. In line with this, this study would focus on the recent studies about the prevention of such infections. On the one hand, the researcher would focus on a critique of a qualitative study that shows the effects of pharmacological use antibacterial solutions towards preventing nosocomial infections. Specifically, this study conducted by Eton, et al. (2016), discusses about the use of antibacterial prophylaxis, prior to surgerical treatments to mitigate risks of infections. On the other hand, a qualitative study about the effects of non-pharmacological treatments would also be analyzed. In contrast to the first study mentioned, this research conducted by Cohen, et al. (2015), focuses on the use of isolation-based practices to prevent nosocomial infections. All in all, the author believes that by understanding the different methodologies (e.g., quantiative and qualitative) and approaches (e.g., pharmacological and non-pharmacological), a deeper understanding could be gained about the prevention of these Hospita Acquired Infections.

Quantitative
In trying to prevent nosocomial infections, a quantiative study done by Eton, et al. (2016), focuses on the use of pharmacological interventions. Their study tried to find the effects of administering antibacterial phropylaxis in preventing nosocomial infections before surgery. In conclusion of their study, the authors found out that the use of immunosupressors or steroids increases the risks of nosocomial infections, significantly as compared to surgeries without using them.
In terms of its research population, the use of 1,077 cardiac surgery patients from different hospitals and healthcare facilities increases the credibility of the study. The results taken were also based on observations collected and collated from their clinical records within the past 2 years. This increases the study’s objectivity and accuracy in providing information about the effects of the said medication to reducing the number of nosocomal infections prior to surgery. However, despite its promising results, it could be seen that this study is limited in its scope when compared to the objective of this article. It neither covered the effects of the use of a...
